In order to make the best choice possible, you will have to ask yourself the good questions. A laptop ultimately would probably be more useful and better bang for your buck but for me the iPad route fits well into my needs, portability and the mini-led screen is amazing. There is a lot of CAD programs available on the market and you might be a bit lost. I’ve learned quickly that memory goes quick when you pile on a bunch of 360 action videos. Incidentally I’m toying with the idea of getting the 1TB iPad Pro for editing on the road. You can still import the video into your favourite editor like DaVinci or Luma Fusion and export in 4K so the editor does the heavy lifting upscaling. Exporting that in 4K isn’t going to make it look much better. If you zoom in too much it’ll just get blurry. The other thing to think about is a 5.2k spherical video means you really are only getting about 1080p in any 90 degree field of view anyway. I’m sure there is a speed penalty when you hit render and it has to send the data over wifi but if you’re stuck in a pinch and short on space or time, it works. One workaround that works better than I expected is to add the videos from the Insta360 connected via wifi and just edit off the camera itself. There is some excuse floating around by the Insta people but really they want you to buy some stupid expensive memory card reader instead.

One of the only real frustrations I have with it though is the inability to just plug in the USB cable and transfer the files directly. Others have stated the limitations of the app. I use my old 2017 iPad Pro and it still edits just fine.
